Just a few years ago, the standing joke at the Beazley House was you could tell when it was November: Someone cut the phone lines, blocked the roads and kidnapped all our guests. This was because the phones went dead. The roads were empty. And the guests disappeared. It was quite a shock to go from being nearly full each and every day in October to utterly empty November 1st.
Of course that was then: before the internet, before our 35 years in business and before Napa’s renaissance.
Fast-forward to November 2016
Thanks to the internet our guests from literally all over the world can book, in real time, 24/7 the room of their choice and within seconds receive a guaranteed reservation confirmation. After 35 years of happy guests, we are hosting not only returning guests but their CHILDREN, friends and family. Most of all Napa has become the food and wine capital of America.
And why wouldn’t it?! A small town that’s utterly walkable, Napa boasts over 50 Zagat rated restaurants, 17 wine tasting rooms, an 1879 Opera House turned Blue Note Napa, a Jazz club, The Uptown Theatre, a 1930s movie palace featuring live concerts and comedy and the reborn CIA at Copia. Oh, and Napa is surrounded by vineyards and some 450 wineries.
November in Napa Features Great Weather
Napa enjoys one of the longest fall seasons in the U.S. with cool evenings and mornings served warm and mellow each afternoon. The autumn colors are at their height in November, much longer than the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard where winter has striped the trees bare.
Napa Valley Film Festival 2016
It is in November that Napa is home to the Napa Valley Film Festival, which after only 5 years has rocketed to one of the top 5 film festivals in the entire United States. This year over 120 new independent and sneak preview films will be screened in vintage theaters, performing arts centers, an old airplane hangar, a cooking school, a local jazz club and winery barrel rooms stretching the entire 30 miles from south to north in each town and hamlet of the Napa Valley. For five days (and glorious nights) the four walkable towns and villages of Napa Valley will glitter with stars of the silver screen and culinary world. There will be food, wine and parties.
Like other destination festivals, they offer full-experience passes at an array of prices, from seriously affordable to seriously indulgent; plus midweek and day passes to get just a taste (or a big bite) of the NVFF experience. CIA RE-Opens Copia
The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has purchased the Robert Mondavi inspired Copia, a beautiful campus on the Napa River less than a mile from the Beazley House. It is right next to the Oxbow Public Market. Our guests will be able to learn the culinary arts first-hand. The new facility will be “entirely dedicated” to offering food and wine education and experiences to the public.
According to an article in the Napa Valley Register, Tom Ben, managing director for both Napa Valley campuses, including the original site at Greystone in St. Helena, “This will be the public face of the CIA. Copia is a first for the Culinary Institute of America,” he said, noting that “It opens a window into what the CIA truly is: a visionary thought-leader and innovator in food and beverage, with world-class faculty and facilities.”
The Napa Register article went on to say, “Beginning on Monday, Oct. 17, the CIA is offering daily food and wine programs in newly named Napa Valley Vintners Theater, formerly the Meyer Food Forum. The 72-seat theater is equipped with a demonstration kitchen. The first classes include “Basic Flavor Interactions,” “Cooking With Wine,” “Fresh Home-made Cheese” and “How to Make Fresh Pasta.”
The Restaurant at CIA
Copia Mid November is the predicted opening date for The Restaurant at CIA Copia. Formerly “Julia’s Kitchen at Copia” the space has undergone a face-lift as the new restaurant, which will be open for lunch and dinner, under the direction of Waldy Malouf, CIA’s senior director of food and beverage operations, and chef de cuisine Chris Aken, the Napa Register said.
