California, the sunshine state?
California, the SUNSHINE state has been in the news lately. You might have heard.
Record rainfall has swollen the lake behind the tallest dam in the country so full that it caused officials to evacuate whole towns downstream from Oroville on the Feather River. Now Oroville is 126 miles north of us, so we were never threatened, but we’ve had our share of rain.
Napa has received 25 inches, a full 90 percent of its normal ANNUAL rainfall by mid- February! So, oh yeah, the drought is over!
In our recent past, our record rainfall could have meant Napa River floods. But not now. After our 17 year Napa Flood Control project our bridges no longer act like dams, the Oxbow Bypass sends the river harmlessly downstream and we have a wonderful Riverwalk from which to watch it!
The biggest difference between Winter in California and the rest of the U.S. is ours is sunny and warm. For example, Napa Valley in the last 7 days has received 7 to 17 inches of rain! But the past weekend it’s sunny and in the 60’s.
In fact, our spring has sprung! In February the mustard has already burst into bloom in the vineyards throughout the Napa Valley.
And the Napa Valley has turned so many shades of green it looks like Ireland!
And for the last six days, the sun has come out in all its brilliance.
It’s truly a “Picture Perfect” time to visit the Napa Valley. Not only will the picturesque valley reward you with great photos to post on Instagram, but it’s before the hustle and bustle of high season. The rates are low and the service is high - We hope you visit us soon!
