Why October is Napa Valley’s Highlight Season?
It could be the crisp mornings framing warm afternoons with cold, clear nights. Or the intoxicating aroma of fermenting fruit throughout the valley as the last grapes migrate from field to winery.
Cabernet Sauvignon, the king of grapes, is harvested with a flourish befitting its royal pedigree. What starts as a waiting game for sugars to reach their perfection devolves into a frantic race to harvest the fruit at its finest.
The skilled hands of harvesters strip clusters from full vines, being careful not to bruise the ripened bunches. From vines to trays to bins holding tons of precious fruit whole vineyards are stripped of their bounty from before dawn until mid-mornings. Then they are quickly transported to crush pads at waiting wineries. Work then shifts to separating leaves and stems from grapes, washing the fruit before carefully crushing the berries.
On the other hand, it might just be that October is when autumn’s colors are at their height in the vineyards. A tapestry of yellows, oranges and reds drapes the Napa Valley from floor to hillock.
The views from hilltop wineries like Signorello Estate and Silverado Vineyards on the southern Silverado trail to Mumm Napa mid valley to Sterling’s northern point are spectacular. The Beazley House can arrange your visit where necessary.
Local writer Paul Franson, email@example.com www.napalife.com does a fabulous job of writing a super detailed weekly online column on events in the Napa Valley. The Napa Valley Vintners has also posted a short list of October events at Napa Vintners. And, our friends at Beringer Vineyards are hosting live music from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekend in October with picnicking on the great lawn. Their Sherry Shack will open for picnic items and wines by the glass from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Arrive early to reserve your picnic spot. Bocce court and Corn Hole are also available. This is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon in Wine Country!
While the Beazley House is generally fully booked right now for October weekends, cancellations do happen (we will happily put you on our waitlist), and our mid-week days are still showing availabilities.
Remember pack light, plan on layering and give yourself the best memories of an October you’ve ever had.
